This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, a diesel engine upgrade is the most significant change to the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. The Duramax 6.6-liter engine receives a host of power and refinement upgrades, as well as reduced emissions. Additionally, the Allison automatic transmission is now a six-speed, and features a tap-shift range selection mode. The only other noteworthy updates are a new design for the optional power camping/towing exterior mirrors and slightly updated front-end styling.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, multiple drivetrain configurations, substantial towing and hauling capacities.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, mediocre interior design and materials.

  • Best Diesel Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I had a 1500HD with the 6.0 before this one and loved everything but the gas mileage. Then I got the LBZ Duramax and love it! The mileage, HP & TQ are amazing. I especially enjoy the manual transfer case I was lucky to get my hands on. Only one issue and thats the driver side suspension knocks occasionally. I think it may be due to the weight of the D-max. Other than that, I love it!

  • Solid, well-built truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Shopped Ford, Dodge, but Chevy was the best value. This thing will pull your house down. The 4auto shifts smoothly and solidly. The motor growls with plenty of low-end torque. Tons of room in the back for kids, etc. Gas mileage around 14..better than Ford or Dodge. Great work truck.

This is a very good truck. It has done everything Ive expected it to do and more for a 2500 series truck. I would highly recomend it to any one wanting a big truck

  • Duramax is great - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

This one of the best vehicles I have ever owned! That is out of 40 to 50! It has never let me down and has helped me help other in deep snow, on ice, in the heat and in the cold. It has a Cadillac ride plus the capacity to tow a house! What more can you want from a vehicle? Good ecomony for what you drive? Well it delivers on that too! I have gotten over 27 mpg highway and get 22 city all the time! Yeah I know I can get a hybrid that can do 50 mpg but it cant do anything but hual me. My truck can do a lot more so I love my truck!

  • Get a Crew Cab, Its worth it! - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
    By -

I did a lot of research before I bought a new pickup. Ive owned pickups from all of the "Big 3" and had no great loyalty to anyone. I spoke with several ME game wardens who drive thier trucks in all types of weather and off road conditions, and they all said Chevys were the best. I was undecided about an X-tend or Crew cab, went with the Crew cab. Its longer, harder to dock, uh park, but the convience of the 4 doors is worth it. Drives well, rides great. Load it up and it rides like a Cadillac. The longer length takes some getting used to, and the gas mileage isnt bad for a 300HP engine. If you take it off road make sure you have plenty of room to turn around. Youll need it! Overall, very happy!

This truck is better than advertised. I cannot say one negative thing. It will flat pull a house off its foundation.

  • 2006 Duramax - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Awesome power and very quiet. Have a 2004 Dodge cummings and an 05 Ford powerstroke and this has the most power, quietest and best mileage of the bunch towing and no towing. Interior is good and driving is fun.

  • Great Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Good power (no problems keeping up with traffic)... Decent mileage (around 14.5 - 15.5 mpgs) ... Reasonably comfortable for a heavy hauler ... Definitely love the manual trans (use 1st gear for first 500 miles ... after that use only when towing). Additionally, I like the styling, though Dodge and Ford look good also. In my opinion, you cant go wrong with any of the big 3s 2500 series trucks ... Test drive em all and decide which one you think you look best in. Suggested options are locking diff, sliding rear window, snow plow prep (gives more powerful alternator), on/off road tires, towing pkg, and extra battery (not for starting but any accessories). Hope this helps some folks

Nice truck. Just traded in an 04 reg cab for this one. Good solid power and well built. From a manufacturing engineer standpoint, the truck is very mechanically solid.

This truck has everthing I need in a truck. Smooth performance, quiet, and plenty of power.
